Last night I had a fitful sleep. Words and thoughts were racing / screaming through my head.
This morning I arose and put pen to paper.
What I came up with is not necessarily a poem, nor a devotion. I guess it is a summary of where I am, today.

All Father, Veratyr,
You give me breath,
You give me life,
A connection I embrace.

You fill me with passion through your words.
You teach me joy and pain, honor and discipline.
You care for me and wait while I seek knowledge.

You have taught me to
overcome my fears;
embrace my anger;
revel in laughter.

You guide me to
rule my life;
strengthen my character;
take pride in my tasks.

You have shown me how to
look deep within;
honor my ancestors;
rely only on myself.

I understand now that
silence and calmness are not signs of ignorance;
strength, honor and loyalty are what makes us leaders.

I will not get on bended knee for any god.
Nor will I repent for wrong doings.
I was born to be the best I can be,
to honor the gods and my ancestors,

I will
spend my life questioning, reasoning and seeking;
continue on my quest for knowledge;
seek guidance when I stumble; and
Honor the Aesir and Vanir beyond the best of my abilities.

Words written fresh from the awoken mind is a form of art in itself. It is poetry in it's rawest form, and that is beautiful in and of itself.

Thank you for sharing this. While a common fool might view the words as bland ramblings, I am sure many of us here realize the true quality of words that come from one's mind in it's most open time. It is words like these that truly connect to a man's heart and unlock doors in their brain.
