I heard of an interesting topic the other day. It was explained to me that the ice cap in Greenland is melting at a pace faster than what scientists originally anticipated, and that if it continues, the cold water that comes down from the north will cool the warm currents coming into the Atlantic from the south, and would plunge the world into another ice age. this sounds awfully like Fimbulwinter to me. What are your opinions? Am I just being overly superstitious or could a world ice age mean something (besides that we need to take care of our planet, that part is clear)?

I have not studied the science behind it but I doubt that the melting of the polar ice would trigger another ice age. A change in cyclical weather patterns (such as the "El Niño" and "La Niña" that are phenomena of warming and cooling patterns in the Pacific Ocean. It is my understanding that the Fimbulwinter will be long and harsh and have a significant impact on agriculture but I do not get the impression that it will be an ice age level event event.

That being said, I'm not a climatologist so I really don't know. Those who are considered "survivalists" or "preppers" advise that by preparing for the worst case scenario you increase your chances of surviving less severe events. If you're ready for the next ice age then you'd certainly be in a good position to ride out a long winter.
