Has anyone read the book of runes by Ralph H. Blum? Is it just me or is there a bit of christian undertones in it? I would also like any opinions on Ed Fitch's "The Rites of Odin" are these acceptable books for their subject? Recommendations?

Blum's book is valuable.....as kindling for a fire. Note the addition of the blank rune, and then note that you should steer FAR clear of Blum's book.

Further, I find that reading "taking up the runes" by diane paxson and a few of thorsson's works to be the most profitable for me.

I have read only two rune books. Thorsson, Edred: Futhark: A Handbook of Rune Magic and Krasskova, Galina: Runes: Theory and Practice. I liked both books but prefer Krasskova's.

I appreciate the responses, I had gotten my hands on Blums book when I was a teen and thumbed through it then. I actually read the whole thing recently and found it a bit christiany at best. I will look into the books that you have recommended, thank you.

I agree that Edred Thorsson is fairly knowledgeable in the runes. Just take any of his other writings with a grain of salt.

Here is a list of PDF's from his works:

http://kinsland.org/edred-thorsson-futhark.pdf

I've also uploaded the CD mp3 files that goes with the Rune Song book.

You will have to scroll down a little bit to see the mp3 download links.

May the gods grant you success in your endeavors.

Diana Paxson's "Taking up the Runes" is very good. She actually brings the ideas of many different authors and their thoughts on the runes in as well as her own ideas.
Besides that Edred Thorsson is interesting and Freya Aswynn isn't bad either for starters.

Any opinions on Teutonic Magic by Kveldulf Gundarsson? I do not know much, but it seems to be a very good book to go with Thorsson's Futhark.

Michael William Denny's works are good as well. You can find them on Amazon.com or thunderwizard.com

I have read a few of Thorssons books. They are very informative. I am going to branch out and read others to have a more balanced approach.
