I recently carved a pine block into a 24 sided 'die', and etched the elder futhark into its sides (patterned following the sun). It's a simple piece that I'm using to choose random runes to study upon...any thoughts?

Is that it in your profile picture? It looks amazing! I paint stained glass and carve, as well. We use what is closest to our hearts to be closest to the gods and our lore. Some use metal, others cards, some use stones, others altars, some music, some poetry... Whatever you feel brings you closer to learning and closer to this path, it is right for you. I would love to see a larger picture of it when it's complete, if you don't mind. :)

I work in woods and metals, but i find that woods are more contemplative for me, and the metals more finite. My profile pic is actually a statue of Thor I had carved awhile back, I am still working to complete one of Odin.

We really need a way to share our art. When you can get something posted somewhere anonymous, let us know so we can see them. I love woodworking and glass. My husband is a welder, so he's into metal. He's not good with wood or glass and I'm not good with metal lol.

I've created a photobucket account, with pictures of some carving work, though I am unsure how to link it here.

::edit:: Maybe this... http://s1060.photobucket.com/user/tanng ... t=3&page=1 ?

Oh, wow! I carve but not like that. A block of wood in my hands would become dust lol. You are very talented! Thank you for sharing!

The die seems a really good way to learn , nicely done .
What does ( patterned by the sun ) suggest ?

Thank you both, 'patterned following the sun' just means the rows are ordered on the sides in clockwise rotations...my intention being to allow the runes to flow as naturally as possible.

Thanks again to everyone! I just finished the cover for my 'rune-journal' :Image : a runic compass 'Vegvisir - See the Way', Found it fitting for the book I use most on this path. I love being able to share my work with those who understand!

Is that drawn or carved? Those are incredibly straight lines and nicely done arches! I'm so impressed because my straight lines and measurements leave much to be desired lol.

Much appreciated Skuld! It is drawn with an 08 Prismacolor Illustration Marker, I used a square for the cross-bars, and a compass to get the overall sizing. Often in design of a piece I find it easier to use relative measurements opposed to standardized. I.E., I want piece 'a' this long, piece 'b' half as long, and piece 'c' half again the length of 'a'. I've "made" many a ruler for such individual purpose.

I've been wanting to try those markers. I have a gift card to Michael's and a big coupon. I might get some this weekend.

I'd highly recommend it, great quality and long lasting (I love the 005 for writing my tiny print), and the offer an 8 marker set with brush and chisel tips in black and sepia.

*they offer
