This movie appeared to be Swedish and I stole the recommendation from someone I cannot recall on the "Thale" thread.

In any case, this movie is VERY EUROPEAN, and the themes are much more subtle than in most American films- There is no "Hey, the main character is an Odinist" line spoken outloud, it is by his actions (the dude is made of 100% bravery) that make it evident that he is a follower of the "Old Ways" by his obsession over the secrecy of his diary (outside of his children) and his actions in working WITH nature as opposed to against it.

On the negative- since the main character is an archaeologist- I could not help but wince at the idea of any artifact touched without gloves. I came from a line of study where "dig etiquette" is taught, and an archaeologist is nothing more than the slave of another disciplines interest (such as anthropology or theology).

In the beginning of the movie I kept wanting to scream "BRING IN A THEOLOGIAN!" repeatedly. But perhaps they do not exist in Sweden.

I give this movie 4/5 Odinmarks and my blessing. The only spoiler I give you is Don't expect to see the Gods in this one. It seems like this is a very sensitive social issue to the country of origin by how they handled the topic of religion and the sciences as separate and controversial in a way.

I stand corrected! The only reason I thought it was Swedish is it seemed to take place in Sweden when the main character showed the map of excavations.

Despite the above mentioned short falls this movie was still enjoyable.

It's honestly a better watch than most popular movies currently.

I find that I spend most of my time studying the history of other cultures, to find common connections. A recent idea of mine was to write a play about the french revolution.

I enjoyed it, glad that it was not a Hollywood production.
