There are a lot of so called Odinists who are sheep, as well.

Every group has their sheep. Unfortunately, I'm the only non-christian in my family, besides my more or less agnostic/atheist uncle. Blood family, that use. My husband isn't Christian.

That is true. I've heard Asatru described as "Nordic cosplay." Which is perhaps unfair. But the quip does point to a problem of committment.

Nothing wrong with a bit of cosplay, in my opinion, but it does seem to be all it is for some so-called Ásatrúar. Then there is that other side of Ásatrú which seems to be made up of progressives. They resemble wiccans with a northern stylistic flair, to me. From my perspective, they don't have a real loyalty to their folk, and often times are very eclectic, in that they adopt bits and pieces from various cultures and religions. I wouldn't mind so much, if these people weren't trying to be the face and voice of Ásatrú as a whole.

Agreed. Wotan is called "Forth Rider," and" "Wanderer" among other things. For alleged followers of him, these folks seem to be lugging a prohibitive lot of pluralist baggage. They forget that he who tries to walk all paths gets nowhere.
